Town Break proudly work in partnership with NHS Forth Valley to deliver Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). CST adopts a holistic approach and is a brief treatment for people who have a formal diagnosis of mild or moderate stages of dementia.
Our CST programme involves 14 sessions of themes activities, which typically run once per week. Every session aims to be actively stimulating and engaging, whilst also being fun.
CST has been designed following extensive psychological research and is recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) as an evidence-based treatment which can be of benefit to both quality of life and cognitive functioning for individuals living with dementia.
Clinical trials suggest that the effects of CST appear to be of comparable size as to those reported by the currently available anti-dementia drugs.
After having completed CST, clients are often offered a place in our Maintenance CST programme which typically runs for a further 16 week period. The programme follows a similar structure to CST, and includes similar engaging activities which are slightly more challenging than those featured in the CST programme. The aim of Maintenance CST is to ensure that our clients experience prolonged benefits to their quality of life and cognitive ability.
